Skills Academy Programme

Who should attend?

Players of all skills levels aged between 5 years and 18 years.

Programme overview

The purpose of the programme is to coach and equip players of all ages with the fundamentals of rugby skills.

Programme outline

The programme includes the development of the following skill techniques and SHAPEs:

  • Passing SHAPE
  • Tackling SHAPE
  • Defensive SHAPE
  • Attacking SHAPE
  • Kicking SHAPE

Additional aspects include (where appropriate):

  • Strength and conditioning
  • Anaerobic and aerobic fitness
  • Game-related fitness
  • Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ)

How long is the programme?

Each APRSA Academy intake is coordinated according to school term dates. The duration of each programme is between 10 – 11 weeks per term.

How much does it cost?

Fees are advised for each intake according to the number of weeks per term

A complimentary APRSA Academy kit (jersey and shorts) is provided to each player.

Players interested in rugby-specific fitness aged between 5 years and 18 years. Participants are allocated into age-appropriate groups.

An intensive six-session rugby-specific fitness programme

Programme outline

Six rugby-specific components including:

  • Skills-based fitness
  • Skills-based conditioning games
  • Speed, power and agility
  • Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning
  • Rugby-specific fitness circuits
  • Fitness testing

How long is the programme?

Three sessions delivered over one week. Sunday 28th June, Tuesday 30th June, Thursday 2nd July, Sunday 5th July, Tuesday 7th July & Thursday 9th July 9:00am-10:30am.
